"Counter-terrorism forces and army troops liberated the Zankura area in a swift military operation," Sabah al-Noman, front man of the elite Counter-Terrorism Service, told AFP.

"They evacuated 10,000 people who were transferred to a safe area," he said.

An army colonel in the region said they would be offered first aid and then taken to camps for displaced people.

Zankura lies on a bend in the Euphrates river northwest of Ramadi, capital of Anbar province that Iraqi forces brought under full control last month.

7 ISIS Bad Guys die

(IraqiNews.com) Anbar – A source in Borders Guards Command in Anbar Province announced on Saturday, that seven members of the so-called ISIS were killed in armed confrontations against the security forces on the Saudi-Iraqi borders west of Ramadi (110 km west of Baghdad).

The source reported for IraqiNews.com, “Armed clashes erupted, at noon today, between the security forces and ISIS members, after attacking al-Majna border point in Arar area on the Iraqi-Saudi borders (460 km west of Ramadi),” pointing out that, “The security forces managed to kill seven members of ISIS and destructed a vehicle mounted with a machine gun.”

The source, who asked anonymity, added, “The security forces strengthened their presence in Arar border points, and along the border strip between Iraq and Saudi Arabia in anticipation of similar terrorist attacks.”

Iraqi warbird hammer ISI targets in Khalidiya Island

(IraqiNews.com) Anbar – The Head of Khalidiya District Council in Anbar Province Ali Dawood announced on Saturday, that the international coalition aviation shelled targets belonging to the so-called ISIS in Khalidiya Island east of Ramadi.

Dawood said in a statement followed by IraqiNews.com, “The security forces from the Anti-Terrorism Directorate, tribal fighters, in addition to the army’s 8th and 10th brigades are continuing their military operations to liberate the areas and villages of Khalidiya Island.”

Dawood added, “Today the international coalition aviation shelled a number of targets belonging to ISIS in Khalidiya Island, destructing the targets, killing dozens of ISIS members and inflicting heavy losses on them.”

Iraqi military commander killed by ISIS sniper in Fallujah

(IraqiNews.com) al-Anbar – A security source in Anbar province said on Saturday, that the army commander of the 30th Regiment was killed by an ISIS sniper south of Falujah.

The source said in a brief statement obtained by IraqiNews.com, “The commander of the army’s 30th Regiment General Officer Zana Khalil had been killed by a sniper belonging to the ISIS in the area of Albu Daeg (23 km south of Fallujah,” pointing out that, “A security force transfered the body of the regiment’s commander to the forensic medicine authority.”

“The area of Albu Daeg is controlled by the army and police,” the source also added.
