Kurd rocket artillery hits ISIS positions in Mosul
[ARA News] ERBIL – Peshmerga forces launched grad and katyusha rockets at the ISIS-held Iraqi northwestern city of Mosul from the Naweran frontline for the second time, military sources said.

“It has been going on for a whole day, you can see grad and katyusha rockets. They [Peshmerga] have been launching them all day. They have brought four trucks with rocket launchers,” Ryan O’Leary, a US fighter in the Peshmerga ranks told ARA News.

“There are also non-stop airstrikes and artillery attacks on ISIS position in Mosul. The Turkish tanks have been hitting them [ISIS] as well,” he added.

“Since noon, 15 to 20 missiles have been hitting ISIS every hour, I don’t think they hit Mosul city itself, but the outskirts,” he said.

However, the Islamic State confirmed the Peshmerga forces hit the city.

“The Peshmerga forces indiscriminately shell the Nur and Bakr neighborhoods on the western bank of Mosul,” Islamic State’s semi official news agency Amaq said on Friday.

“In Naweran frontline, they hit the Xursabad village in the hands of Daesh [ISIS] with rockets,” Peshmerga officer Islam Chali told ARA News. “Moreover, the same day also at the Hardan frontline, they attacked the Daesh-controlled Ayadhiya village, near Mosul,” he added.

This is not the first time Peshmerga forces start launching rocket attacks on ISIS forces. Since January 2015, Kurdish forces have fired hundreds of rockets at ISIS-positions in Mosul.

Kurds shoot down ISIS drone in Mosul

[ARA News] The Kurdish Peshmerga forces shot down a drone from the Islamic State [ISIS] on Friday evening near the Keske Junction on the Mosul frontline.

“Peshmerga forces managed to shoot down a aircraft used by Daesh [ISIS] to observe and photograph Peshmerga positions,” Islam Chali, a Peshmerga officer told ARA News.

The drone was used by ISIS to carry out surveillance on Peshmerga positions.

The Islamic State uses surveillance drones bought at the black market to spy on “enemy” positions.

Moreover, the ISIS group uses drone footage in their propaganda videos against their enemies.

When the Islamic State attacked the Kurdish city of Kobane in northern Syria they published drone footage to show their various suicide attacks in the city.

The Kurdish Peshmerga recaptured the strategic junction of Keske from ISIS in January 2015, cutting off one of the main supply lines between the ISIS strongholds of Mosul and Raqqa.
