More deaths as Zawia Warshefana fighting continues
Tripoli, 26 March 2016:

A bloody 24 hours in Zawia has seen at least eight more deaths, including the execution of six men, five of them brothers and the slaying by shellfire of an Indian nurse and her baby son.

The bodies of the six men were found with gunshots wounds to the head and clear signs of torture. Pictures show that their hands had been bound behind them.

The Al-Moudi brothers, Sabri, Naji, Ashraf, Ehab and Essam, aged between 35 and 19 and their 32 year-old friend Majdi Shushan were seized yesterday from the Moudi family home in Zawia by an armed group. The town’s police police spokesman, said they had been abducted by “a gang from Warshefana” as part of the continuing violence between the two rival communities, in which 11 men died on Thursday. A large crowd of mourners attended the funerals of the six men this afternoon.

The Indian nurse Suni Sathyan, 31 and her toddler son Pranev were killed when a shell exploded in their Zawia apartment. Her husband Vipin Kumar was out of the building at the time. The Indian foreign ministry has said that Sathyan was one of 27 Indian medical staff still working at Zawia hospital. The ministry repeated its call for all Indian nationals to leave Libya immediately. It is unclear who fired the deadly shell.

Meanwhile there are unconfirmed reports that a Zawia resident and his sister were fatally wounded and his wife and two year old daughter seriously injured when they tried to run a Warshefana roadblock yesterday. The man was reportedly rushing his daughter to Tripoli for emergency treatment.
