SNA and AU troops retake town from Al Shabaab
Troops from federal government of Somalia and their African Union counterparts wrested full control of Gal’ad, a strategic town in Galgaduud region on Friday morning. Gal’ad town which lies in central Somalia, has served as a significant stronghold for the Al Qaeda-linked Islamic militants of al-Shabaab over the past eight years, Somali military said.

The allied forces who moved from their bases in Bud-Bud village entered Gal’ad after the Al shabaab militants withdrew from the town, according to residents who spoke to Radio Shabelle by phone. Bud-Bud is situated just 30 kilometers (19 miles), west of Gal’ad town.

Local residents said SNA and AMISOM troops conducted security operation in the city and set up defensive positions outside the town, to fend off a possible counter-offensive from Al shabaab.
