6 Palestinian teens arrested after rioting near Jerusalem

The six, ages 14-17, also hurled rocks at Border Police who came to detain them. There were no reports of injuries. Rock-throwing was also reported in the capital and on the West Bank road to the Etzion Bloc, where person or persons unknown pelted passing Israeli vehicles with stones, causing no injuries or damage, according to Israel Radio. In Jerusalem, a 16-year-old Arab teenager threw stones at a car on Uzi Narkis street, which runs through the neighborhoods of Pisgat Ze’ev and Beit Hanina. The assailant was arrested for the attack, which caused damage to the vehicle, according to the Walla news website. The incidents came as thousands of Israelis headed to national parks and beaches to mark Independence Day. Earlier Thursday, a 20-year-old was stabbed and lightly maimed in northern Jerusalem. Police said the young man was attacked in the city’s Pisgat Ze’ev neighborhood and stabbed in his upper body. His assailant escaped and officials said it was not yet clear whether the attack was criminal or nationalistic in nature. Israel closed off the West Bank and Gazoo Strip for 48 hours beginning midnight Tuesday-Wednesday for Israel’s memorial and independence days. The closure began at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday and is expected to end at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, the army said, though the reopening will be subject to a "situational assessment." The closure took effect soon after an Israeli officer was maimed by bombs at a West Bank checkpoint Tuesday evening, and after two Israeli women in their 80s were stabbed by masked assailants in a terror attack in Jerusalem earlier in the day.
