Two killed, three wounded in Narathiwat gun attack
[The Nation] A village chief and his assistant were killed and three others, including a paramilitary volunteer ranger, were wounded in a drive-by shooting in Narathiwat province on Monday night. The five victims had been digging a well to help villagers handle the drought when militants approached in a pick-up truck and opened fire at them with an M16 assault rifle. Provincial governor Sitthichai Sakda joined investigators yesterday as they inspected the scene in Joh I Rong district. Police, who waited to inspect the scene in the morning for security reasons, collected 17 spent M16 cartridges as evidence.
