Afghan intelligence thwart suicide attack plot in Aibak city
A suicide attack plot by the Taliban militants group was foiled in Aibak city, the provincial capital of northern Samangan province of Afghanistan.The National Directorate of Security (NDS) said a suspect identified as Ashiqullah has been detained in connection to the attack plot. According to a statement by NDS, Ashiqullah was appointed by a Taliban commander to carry out a suicide attack in a busy area of Aibak city using a motorcycle packed with explosives. The statement further added that the suspect was arrested before he manage to reach to the area to carry out the suicide attack. The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far. The Taliban insurgents are active in a number of the remote districts of Samangan province and often carry out insurgency activities. This comes as the group has been attempting to expand its activities in northern provinces as they have stepped up attacks in a number of the northern provinces, specifically in Kunduz province.
