We're back up
After feeling like a dummy for most of the time we've been down, I think we're recovering now. I'll try not to break it again, at least not soon.Because we've got a brand new hard drive there will be bugs. Badanov and I will try to kill them as they come up. I'd gotten sloppy about backing up -- we went fifteen years without crashing, at least nothing serious. The directory back up was several months old, so we're probably missing pictures. The database backups have been taking place at the wrong hours. So I've got a bit of adjustment to do. The HP machine I bought to replace the old box crashed because it suddenly couldn't recognize the network card, which was due to a bug in the Realtek 8169 card of several years standing. For some odd reason it behaves at home but not at our ISP. It's not critical here, and there's a wireless network card as a workaround so I'm not worried. We're running on the old box now, with the hard drive out of the new one. Please let me know when you find something that doesn't work. I'll try to be careful when I make changes and to fix things promptly when I break them. Posted by: Fred 2016-07-08 |
