Allegation That Iran Recruiting Agents to Assassinate Iraqi Intel Officials
From Radio Free Europe / Radio LibertyIraqi intelligence chief Muhammad al-Shahwani accused 27 members of the Iranian Embassy's Baghdad staff of espionage, Al-Sharqiyah television reported on 14 October. Al-Shahwani said that embassy personnel were also recruiting people to carry out assassinations that led to the deaths of some 18 members of the intelligence force since mid-September. He contended that documents uncovered during a series of raids on Iranian places (not further identified) in Baghdad on 29 September link Iran with the intelligence killings.
