Louisiana officer wounded in shooting
[SA Today] A man was killed and a Louisiana State Police trooper was shot in the arm Sunday during an auto theft investigation in New Orleans.New Orleans Superintendent of Police Michael Harrison said during a news conference Sunday that state troopers attempted a traffic stop in the 7th Ward at about 3:30 p.m. of a vehicle that was believed to be reported stolen. Three suspects emerged from the vehicle and one began firing at the troopers, striking one in the elbow, Harrison said. The suspects then ran from the scene, hiding on nearby blocks in the area. Within minutes, New Orleans and Louisiana State police officers arrived on the scene and began to search for the suspects. When authorities located one of the suspects, he began to fire at police who returned fire, striking the suspect, Harrison said. He died at the scene. Details were not immediately available about the man who was killed. Police are still searching for the two other suspects, described as black males, Harrison said. “This is still a very active scene,” he said.
