Taliban Seize Helmand's Nawa District
Taliban on Monday launched a coordinated assault on Nawa district in the southern province of Helmand, seizing control of the strategic town from government forces.Nawa police chief was also killed during the battle with the hardline militant group. "We have pushed back the enemy in Aqtash, Khanabad and Qala-e-Zal distircts. The enemy has tried to keep us busy here," said Mohammad Radmanish, deputy spokesman for Defense Ministry. Meanwhile, Helmand lawmakers warned that Khanashin, Marjah, Nad Ali and Garmsir districts are also on the verge of collapse. "When they [government] see Taliban silent for some days, they think that they have eliminated all of them, but they [Taliban] are deceiving them and making their plans for their next attacks," said Fatima Aziz, an MP. "Most parts of Helmand are under siege by Taliban and the war is ongoing in Lashkargah," said Hashim Alokozay, another MP. In recent weeks, Taliban has changed their tactics and launched attacks on major towns. "The war has reached a deadlock. There is no possibility of launching large-scale military operations by the security forces due to extension and complexity of the war," said Saleh Mohammad Registani, a military commentator.
