At Least 14 Dead in Kabul Shrine Attack
[Tolo News] At least 14 people were killed on Tuesday night after a number of gunnies entered the famous Sakhi Shrine in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
and opened fire on worshipers gathered for an Ashura ceremony.

Eyewitnesses also reported an kaboom.

The gunnies launched their attack shortly after 8pm. Officials said the last gunman had been killed by about 9.30pm local time.

In addition, 26 were maimed, including the police chief of PD3 and two other coppers. An NDS officer was also injured.

The area remains cordoned off by security forces.
Dawn adds:
Of the 14 killed, 13 were civilians and one a police officer. Three police were among the maimed, interior ministry front man Sediq Seddiqi said.

Some 36 people were maimed and at least one attacker killed, Sediqqi said.

Police also said two grenades had been detonated during the attack.
