ISIS executes 7 for desertion

[ARA News] Qamshli – The radical Islamic State (ISIS) group executed on Sunday at least seven of its own militant fighters on charges of “high treason”.

The militants were executed for escaping the battlefront in Mosul, activists and eyewitnesses reported.

“Those fighters had evacuated their posts in Mosul in northern Iraq without permission, heading to the Syrian border,” media activist Abdullah al-Malla told ARA News.

The militants were arrested by the ISIS-linked Hisba Police upon their arrival to Syria’s eastern governorate of Deir ez-Zor.

“They were arrested at the al-Bukamal border crossing on Sunday morning,” a source close to ISIS in Deir ez-Zor told ARA News.

The seven militants were charged with “high treason” for attempting dissidence.

They were executed by firing squad in front of hundreds of people in Deir ez-Zor.

This comes amid intensified fighting in Mosul, where the Kurdish Peshmerga forces and Iraqi Army, backed by the US-led coalition, have launched a major offensive on ISIS’ main bastion in Iraq.
