Quetta police academy attacked, 200 cadets rescued
[CNN] A Pak police training academy in Quetta was attacked Monday and an unknown number of cadets were taken hostage, according to officials.

About 500 cadets live in a hostel at the academy.

Five or six "holy warriors entered the training school and (went) straight to the hostel where they took cadets hostage," the Mighty Pak Army said in a statement. It was unclear how many students were being held.

"The military has been deployed to the location," the army said.

Two hundred cadets were rescued Monday night, according to Sarfaraz Bugti, home minister of Balochistan

province.

The health secretary for Balochistan, Nur ul Haq Baloch, said 35 people were maimed during the violence.

Anwar Ul Haq, government front man in Balochistan province, said seven coppers were maimed, and some police personnel might have been taken hostage.

An emergency has been declared in hospitals across the city.
