80 die in rebel artillery attacks in Aleppo
Aleppo – More than 80 civilians were killed and dozens wounded in a one-week offensive by the Syrian rebel groups in Aleppo, activists reported on Saturday.

The rebel offensive targeted regime-held areas in western Aleppo. Syrian Islamist rebels, led by the Army of Conquest, launched the military campaign on October 28 to break the siege on eastern Aleppo.

“The revolutionary factions have expelled pro-Assad forces from several neighbourhoods, and continued their advance towards western Aleppo,” rebel spokesman Saleh al-Zein told ARA News.

“Soon the regime-imposed siege on eastern Aleppo will be lifted, by force,” the spokesman said.

However, human rights activists in the city reported the death of over 80 civilians, including at least 22 children, under heavy bombardment by the rebel groups.

“Those armed groups claim that they’re fighting to lift the siege imposed by the regime on eastern Aleppo. However, they’re killing many civilians instead of directly hitting regime positions,” rights activist Ahmed Halwani told ARA News.

“The rebels are apparently punishing civilians in western Aleppo for allegedly supporting the Syrian army,” he said.

“This mass attack on civilian houses is a war crime, and is no different from what Assad army is doing by besieging civilians east of Aleppo to starve to death,” Halwani said.
