Dutch police detain man with rifle, image of IS flag at home

[IsraelTimes] Prosecutors in the Netherlands say police have detained a 30-year-old man on suspicion of preparing a terrorist crime after finding a Kalashnikov rifle, two full ammunition clips and a painting featuring a flag used by the Islamic State group at his home. Dutch authorities announced the arrest Friday after the suspect had appeared before an investigating judge in the port city of Rotterdam. They said a search of the man’s home as he was taken into custody Wednesday also uncovered four boxes of highly explosive illegal fireworks, mobile telephones and 1,600 euros ($1,687) in cash.

The suspect’s identity was not released, in line with Dutch privacy guidelines.

Rotterdam is Europe’s busiest port, and also one of The Netherlands’ most multi-cultural societies, home to many who have emigrated from abroad.

About 270 Dutch people left to join the jihadists, and about 40 former fighters are known to have returned from combat in Syria and Iraq, where most have been fighting against Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime. Another 190 Dutch citizens including women and children are still in Syria and Iraq, the agency said in a report last month while 44 fighters have been killed.

Germans worried about how to pay for refugees, survey says

[DeutscheWelle] A majority of Germans fear the government will have to tighten its belt to take care of new refugees, a survey suggests. Despite falling numbers of newcomers, many believe migration is fueling an increase in crime.
Two realistic concerns. Hopefully Germany's government can be brought to respect the will of the citizenry.
Afghan asylum seekers apologetic about Freiburg murder

DeutscheWelle] Afghans in Freiburg say they are afraid the recent murder of a teenage girl, allegedly by an underage Afghan, will affect how they are viewed by Germans. They say they don't want to be painted with the same brush. The fear Ali Mohebi and many others are feeling is reinforced by an agreement between the governments of Afghanistan and Germany to deport rejected Afghan asylum seekers to safe cities in Afghanistan. They are frightened that incidents like the one in Freiburg will increase their chances of being deported to the same land they fled from.

Danish MP suggests firing 'warning shots' at migrant boats
Attitudes evolve in response to reality.
[AlAhram] A Danish lawmaker faced criticism on Thursday for saying boats carrying migrants could be prevented from reaching Europe by firing "warning shots" at them.

"The only way you can do it efficiently is by simply turning the boats around and saying you cannot sail within this territorial border," Kenneth Kristensen Berth, a lawmaker for the anti-immigration Danish People's Party (DPP) said.

"If you do that you will either be fired at or you will be turned around and sailed back," he said during a debate in Copenhagen on Wednesday.
An interesting point in a Deutsche Welle article about Senegal that applies also to the wave of Moslim colonists cresting over Europe:
According to Mbaye Salla from the International Organization for Migraton (IOM), migration should not be associated with poverty. Many migrants save up large amounts of money to attempt to settle in Europe irregularly, without papers - an investment that could have been made at home.
