Terrorist leader killed after shoot-out with Russ special forces soldiers

There are several dozen ethnic groups, most of which speak either Caucasian, Turkic, or Iranian languages. Largest among these ethnic groups are the Avar, Dargin, Kumyk, Lezgin, and Laks. While Russers form less than five percent of the population, Russian remains the primary official language and the lingua franca... , the National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAK) said. The pair opened fire on police and in the ensuring shootout both were rubbed out as they attempted to escape. One of the men is reported to be Ibrahim Amirov, the leader of a local gang called Shamil, which has terrorised the region for years. Since 2013 the gang has carried out a lengthy list of crimes, including murdering the heads of a village municipality in 2013 and 2015, a local imam and the art director of a cultural centre. Shamil gang members have in the past managed to hack cellular communication services in the area. They have also become well-known for extorting large amounts of money from local businesses to fund their underground dealings. The NAK report says at about 4am on Saturday, as part of an existing counter-terrorism operation, the special forces operatives found the men in the village of Teletl.
