Man burnt to death ‘by in-laws’
[Dhaka Tribune] A husband succumbed to his burn injuries at Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Thursday after his wife and mother-in-law had allegedly set him on fire following a dispute regarding the wife’s extramarital affairs.

Deceased Rony Mohanto, son of Lakhhan Chandra Mohanto of Shahapara area in Badarganj upazila, tied knot to Ashtami Rani, daughter of Dipak Mohanto at adjacent Hajipara village, one year ago, said locals and relatives of Rony.

After several months, Ashtami developed a relation with her former private tutor and most of the time, remained engaged in conversation with him through Facebook Messenger.

Rony and Ashtami would have fights over the issue very often.

A few days ago, Ashtami went to her parents’ house following a dispute with her husband.

On Wednesday night, Rony went to his in-laws house in response to his wife’s phone call to take her back home..

When he reached there, an altercation ensued between Rony and his in-laws, including his wife and mother-in-law Arati Rani.

At one stage of the quarrel, Ashtami and her family members tied up Rony’s hands and legs and set him on fire pouring petrol on his body, alleged family members of Rony.

Locals rushed him to a hospital in a critical condition.

Abdul Hamid Polash, assistant professor of Rangpur Medical College Hospital, said although 27% of his body had received burn injuries, Rony died of the burnt in his respiratory tract.

Babul Chandra, elder brother of the dear departed, said he had submitted a written complaint to Badarganj police in this connection.
