Remedy for Russian meddling should be new election
[THEHILL] It sounds like a story lifted from the pages of a spy novel. U.S. intelligence officials have concluded that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
led a cyberespionage scheme designed to help Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
win the presidential election.
Dastardly. Simply dastardly.
What's even worse is that Putin's plan worked and Trump now seems to be siding with Russia against U.S. intelligence agencies.
They're Russians. They can't be right. Moose and Squirrel -- right. Boris and Natasha -- wrong.
It's hard to know how to respond to this because it is unprecedented. But it is essential to take whatever action is necessary to make this right, as difficult, complicated and even uncomfortable as that may be.
... he said virtuously. Catch the signal?
The hard reality is that the presidential election we just held was delegitimized by foreign interference. This is not some conspiracy theory or fevered fantasy;
No, no! Certainly not!
it is a conclusion that flows directly from the unanimous assessments of the U.S. intelligence community.
They're the ones who had the story about the hookers peeing on the Obamabed, remember?
It would be an enormous mistake to ignore this, as Trump has suggested we should.
Enormous! (Not the same thing as "Yuuuge")
In fact, if we can confirm the intelligence report's conclusion that Putin intervened with the goal of electing Trump, there must be a new election in the United States.
Whoa! I am like, toadally blind-sided. But if the Dems win the new election they're trying to call, can we go for two out of three?
This sounds extraordinary, and of course it is.
Sounds pretty stupid, too. Ask the Supreme Court to set it aside. See what they tell you.
But it can be done,
Don't count on it.
and indeed must be done
Nope.
in order to uphold the fundamental democratic principle of free and fair elections, a principle undermined by the Russian efforts.
Wikileaks being a Russian tool, except for when it's releasing stuff exposing Republicans?
How would this take place? The first step should be to conduct further investigations aimed at determining whether the intelligence agencies' conclusions are correct.
Those kinda fell apart, dissolved in the rain from Goldenshowergate.
It is dangerous for Trump to suggest, without a shred of evidence, that the intelligence report is wrong.
It's starting to look stoopid for the lefties to keep maintaining that it's right. Bring on the leaky hookers!
But it would also be a mistake to accept the intelligence report without asking questions and getting more information.
So, really, the inauguration should be put off for another year or two...
Last week, the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee chaired by Sen. John Maverick McCain
... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution...
(R-Ariz.) began holding hearings about Russian interference in the election. The McCain hearings are a good start, but more action is needed, including most importantly the establishment of an independent, nonpartisan body along the lines of the 9/11 commission.
McCain's involvement in procuring sullied information would seem to discredit his hearings, wouldn't? Will he be calling himself as a witness? Is he willing to testify before himself under oath? By the way, the 9-11 commission wound up in August 2004, so the current McCain hoe-down could logically be expected to run for another three years, through 2019.
If such a commission confirmed the intelligence conclusions (while also exploring other questions), it would then seek to determine whether Russian interference affected the election outcome and gave Trump a victory.
