Suicide blast kills 5 suspected militants, firefighter slashed to death in Rajshahi hideout
[Dhaka Tribune] Law enforcers cordoned off a suspected militant hideout in Benipur area under Godagari upazila of Rajshahi district on Thursday

6:30pm- Fire Service Director (operation and maintenance) Major AKM Shakil Nawaz says that a five member probe committee has been formed to investigate the incident, led by Rajshahi Fire Service Deputy Director Nurul Islam.

3:30pm- The bomb disposal team is reportedly on its way from Dhaka.

12:57pm: Godagari OC Hibzur tells the Dhaka Tribune: “Militants first hacked firefighter Abdul Motin and then blew themselves up.

“Motin was severely injured in the suicide blast. Later died of his injuries.”

12:08pm: Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team arrives at the spot.

11:36am: Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit and local police are on the spot.

11:20am: Law enforcers to start the raid once Bomb Disposal Unit from Dhaka arrives at the spot.

11:15am: A police van carrying Sumaiya and her two children leaves the spot, our correspondent Abdullah Al Dulal reports.

11:13am: OC Hibzur tells the Dhaka Tribune: “Sumaiya has surrendered.”

11:10am: Senior ASP (Godagari Circle) Md Ekramul Hoque says: “A person wearing a suicide vest is hiding inside the house.

“We have also rescued a seven-year-old boy and one-month-old baby girl.”

10:39am: “Shazzad along with family started living in the house two months ago. He used to sell clothes while his sons Alamin and Soheb were farmers,” our photographer Azahar Uddin reports.

10:18am: Two executive magistrates arrive at the spot.

10:07am: OC Hibzur says: “Shazzad’s another daughter Sumaiya is hiding in a paddy field near the house. We have asked her to surrender but she is not willing to do so.”

9:57am: “Five militants, including Sazzad, his wife Beli, their sons Alamin, 30, and Soheb, 25, and daughter Karima, 18, died in the suicide blast,” Godagari OC Hibzur tells the Dhaka Tribune.

9:47am: One Shazzad owns the one-storey tin-shed house our photographer Azahar Uddin reports.

9:37am: “Firefighter Abdul Motin died when taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital,” Godagari OC Hibzur says.

9:20am: Godagari OC Hibzur tells the Dhaka Tribune: “We had asked the militants to surrender. They blew themselves up while coming out of the house.

“Firefighter Abdul Motin has also been injured in the blast.”

8:54am: “Four militants have been killed in the firing,” Godagari OC Hibzur tells the Dhaka Tribune.

8:45am: Gunshots heard.

8:30am: Godagari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hibzur Alam Munshi says: “Law enforcers cordoned off a house in Benipur village since 3am.”
