Eight Brotherhood members referred to Egypt's Grand Mufti for opinion on death sentences in Beheira police station case
The process also is a punishment. Quite possibly, after a few more years of the case winding its way through the courts, they will for some procedural reason be set free. Unless they are involved in another case that is simultaneously winding its way...
[AlAhram] An Egypt criminal court ordered that eight members of the now banned Muslim Brotherhood be referred to the country's Grand Mufti, in a preliminary step before the death sentences against the defendants can be finalised. The eight are convicted of attacking a police station in Nile Delta's Beheira governorate.

The Damanhour court is set on 17 June to issue its verdict, for those handed preliminary death sentences as well as 11 others in the case.

The preliminary death sentences are pending the non-binding consultative opinion of the country’s Grand Mufti, per Egypt's penal code.

Once the court issues its final verdict in the case, the defendants have the right to appeal it once again.

The defendants are convicted of forming a terrorist cell and shooting forces at Beheira’s Abo El-Matameer police station in 2015.

No one was killed during the 2015 attack.
