Four killed in Indian Kashmir firefight
[Al Ahram] Two soldiers and two suspected rebels were killed Saturday in Indian Kashmire near the de-facto border that divides the disputed territory with Pakistain, the Indian army said.Kashmire has been split between India and Pakistain since the end of British colonial rule in 1947, with both nations claiming it in its entirety. Indian army front man Colonel Rajesh Kalia said the four died during an exchange of fire. "Two holy warriors attempting infiltration into our side in Kashmire in Naugam sector were eliminated. Two soldiers were also martyred in the exchange of fire," he told AFP. Indian and Pak soldiers have in recent weeks clashed along many areas of the Line of Control, the de-facto border dividing Kashmire between the two countries, leading to deaths of soldiers and civilians on both sides.
