Kurds rescue girl from Iranian militias in Kirkuk
[ARA News] Lahur Talabani, director of the Kurdish Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG) in Iraqi Kurdistan, said on Friday that the CTG and the PUK-linked intelligence agency Zanyari have rescued a girl from the Shia paramilitary Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) in Kirkuk province.

“The CTG forces remain committed to assisting everyone in Kirkuk, regardless of religion, ethnicity, political affiliation and social status,” he said.

“The young girl was rescued and returned safely to her family this morning. Three men, including ringleader, have been arrested and are in police custody,” the top Kurdish official said.

“Extremely proud of Zanyari Agency and CTG forces who worked tirelessly to rescue 6yr old Turkman girl kidnapped in Kirkuk by Shia militia,” he said.

In the last few years, clashes took place on several occasions between the Kurdish Peshmerga forces and the Shia PMU forces in northern Iraq, mainly in Tuz Khurmato.

Karim Nouri, the spokesperson of the PMU, has ruled out a future war between the Kurds and the PMU.

During a conference at the American University of Sulaimani in March, Nouri said: “The PMU and the Peshmergas have fought together, our Kurdish brothers do not need to fear conflict.”

“The Kurds have to be sure that even in the future there won’t be any attacks,” he said.

“In Sinjar, they were supporting us, and holding our flags. We tell our Kurdish brothers there is nothing to fear,” he said, mentioning joint cooperation between the PMU and the Peshmerga forces against ISIS in Sinjar, Mosul, Jalawla, Amerli and Bashir.

Many Kurds argued that once the war against ISIS is over, heavy clashes could break out between the PMU and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

However, after the start of the Mosul operation there was more coordination between Baghdad and Kurdish forces.

In the meantime, the Kurdish government said that the recent move of the PMU towards the Syrian border and the PMU intervention into several Yezidi villages were in violation of previous agreements between Erbil and Baghdad.
