London Bridge attack - day 3
Herewith a summary of what was known as of midnight, and a place to add updates as the day progresses. Yesterday's report is here. The original report of the attack is here.
From the BBC:
Here's a rundown of what has happened since Saturday evening:
  • Seven people have been killed, 48 were injured, 36 remain in hospital, 21 are in a critical condition

  • Police have arrested 12 people - 11 of them at a single address in Barking - as investigations continue.

  • So-called Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack encrypted messaging app Telegram

  • During the incident, a member of the public was shot by police, but is not in a life-threatening condition

  • Cordons are still in place in the area around London Bridge, though police hope to reopen some areas on Monday morning

  • Borough station has reopened

  • There will be a minute's silence held across the UK at 11:00 BST on Tuesday

London's Metropolitan Police have offered fresh details on the arrests made earlier today, and are still searching four other properties. Officers made 11 of the 12 arrests at a single property, police said.

A 38-year-old woman was arrested at one address in Barking. At another, also in Barking, officers arrested:

53-year-old woman
28-year-old man
52-year-old man
55-year-old man
27-year-old man
55-year-old man, who has since been released without charge
49-year-old woman
60-year-old woman
19-year-old woman
27-year-old woman
24-year-old woman

Police said there were no arrests at two addresses in Newham, "although a number of people have been spoken to".

The Daily Mail claims to know the identity of the killer from the Barking apartment block, but is not revealing it at the request of the police. Another Daily Mail article claims that at least two of the three killers are "British born Pakistanis". A third article reports one of the killers was in a television documentary last year about British jihadis.

From the Sun liveblog:
HOMEGROWN KILLER At least one of the jihadis who launched the vile attack on London Bridge grew up in the UK and used to work for KFC and TFL. The 27-year-old terrorist, who cops are asking to be identified only as “Abz”, was a home-grown jihadi who came to UK from Pakistan as a child and spent his life in Barking, East London. He is believed to have been radicalised over the past year – possibly through watching extremist videos on Google-owned video-sharing site YouTube – before mounting his murderous spree with two knife-wielding accomplices in fake bomb vests.

SUSPECT ‘WAS REPORTED TO POLICE’ A friend of one of the suspected attackers who killed seven people and left 48 injured was apparently reported to police. The man, who did not want to be named, told the BBC’s Asian Network that he called the anti-terror hotline but no action was taken.

VAN RECENTLY HIRED Police have confirmed the van used in the attack was a white Renault van which was recently hired by one of the attackers.

From the Telegraph liveblog:
Counter-terrorism officers secretly recorded an alleged Isil-inspired terror cell in Barking last month discussing how to use YouTube to plot a van and knife attack in London, The Daily Telegraph can reveal.

In a statement released 24 hours after the killings on its official Amaq media channel, Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) said the three suspects had been part of a "sleeper cell".
