This Week in Guns, July 1st, 2017

Housekeeping Note: I screwed up three weeks ago when I posted the Quarterly Ammunition Summaries early. They are below.

You'll note on the listings of firearms for private sale categories an entry in bold. This is the number of firearms in each class in each state from the end of 1Q, 2017. Nothing interesting except you'll also notice that the numbers show the private firearms market being flooded with used firearms, in every category in every state. Note also the price lows for each entry and you'll see that of 35 entries, 13 lows were posted in just the last six months. Nineteen lows were reached in the last 12 months. I haven't gone over the percentages yet, but it appears that not only are the markets in the five states I follow being flooded, but the increased number of firearms for sale is translating into much lower prices.

If the trend continues, it could be that prices for other, more expensive firearms will be affected as well. It is clear that manufacturers of new firearms are being affected with layoffs and moves to friendlier states.

At the moment, especially in the categories of the 5.56mm ARs and the 9mm Parabellum semiautomatic pistols -- arguably the most popular firearms of the seven categories -- this is a buyer's market. If you want to purchase a firearm privately, the time is now. Conversely, if you want to get a better value for your firearm, you have two choices. Wait for the market to firm up, which it will eventually, or sell it privately to receive a premium for your firearm.

All that said, the fatuous and repeated claim that The Bammer is the greatest firearms salesman in US history is about to be overtaken by Donald Trump. Firearms are plentiful and ready to be sold privately. I suspect some of these offers to sell are based on the lessening of the need for self defense and an increase in the need for cash. One entry I read on Friday said the seller wanted to buy a boat with the proceeds from the sale.

Even if Donald Trump and Congress don't lift a finger to expand the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (RKBA), and I am not talking about the concealed carry insanity, Trump's presence in the White House has done more for RKBA than any other president in history.
