Paktia Police Demand Anti-Taliban Operation Amid Rising Threats
[Tolo News] Police force members in Paktia province have called for a large-scale military operation in the historic provincial capital Gardez city to eradicate Lions of Islam who operate just few kilometers away from police check posts and carry out frequent attacks on them.

Officials from Paktia Police Headquarters confirmed that the Talibs were posing serious threats to the province, calling for sufficient police force to be deployed to the area in order to tackle the turbans.

According to security officials, Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
has been looking to expand their area of operation.

The resurgent group has increased its attacks against certain targets, security officials said.

"Taliban (fighters) are operating four kilometers away from historic provincial capital Gardez city. The group launches attacks on police check posts. There is a need to carry out military operation and add to the number of check posts (in the area)," said Mohammad Mangal, an Afghan National Police officer in Paktia.

"Security in Gardez city and the roads which connect the city with other parts of the province is fragile and the Taliban can easily infiltrate into the city," said Naqibullah, a police officer.

Some members of Paktia Provincial Council expressed their concerns over ’growing security threats’ in parts of the province and said they had shared the issue with relevant institutions.

"Paktia intelligence agencies were informed about the situation, but they are quite weak to tackle the issue," member of Paktia Provincial Council Abdul Malik Zazai said.

"Threats are on the rise. The current formation of police cannot meet our needs to improve security in the province," said Paktia Police Chief Toryalai Abdiyani.

Paktia residents warned that the situation could deteriorate unless government takes action and eliminates holy warriors.
