Raqqa reconquest: Kurds hold the line, while the Syrian army gobbles up more villages in the south
Kurdish-led forces fling back huge ISIS counterattack in Raqqa

[AlMasdar] The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have repelled a huge Islamic State counterattack against their positions in the southeastern districts of Raqqa city.

For a localized counterattack, the number of men ISIS threw into the battle was exceptionally high and so badly beaten back were the terrorist group’s forces by the end of the assault that when the dust settled it had lost 35 fighters killed in action. Furthermore, 90 percent of the Hisham Ibn Abdulmalik neighborhood is now under SDF control as the Islamic State has been forced to cede certain points it held prior to the attack.

A spokeswoman for the SDF said that ISIS attacked the alliance group’s positions across several districts, including the neighborhoods of Hisham Ibn Abdulmalik, al-Bareed and al-Rodah, clarifying that the SDF were able to kill more than 30 militants, eleven of which were neutralized in the Nazlt Shahada area alone.

Whilst the SDF has not disclosed its own casualties, trusted sources of Al-Masdar News say the US-backed alliance group has lost some 30 fighters dead over the last five days.
