Five children, two adults hit by vehicle in Rice Twp.
[CITIZENSVOICE] (Wiles Barre, PA) Five children and two adults were critically injured Friday afternoon when they were hit by a car while taking a walk through their development, township police said.
Probably just a traffic accident. But...
Three of the children and two adults were airlifted to hospitals while two of the children were transported by ambulance, police said.

The driver of the car is in police custody, Sherlocks said.

The incident occurred on Aleksander Drive in Polonia Estates. Investigators say the family was walking down the street and the car was traveling in the opposite lane right before the collision.

"We're still trying to figure out what happened," said Rice Twp. police Sgt. Harry Ehret.

Neighbors said they heard the crash and rushed outside.

"I came out and saw a bunch of kids laying in the street crying," said Patrick Colo, 17, who lives on the street. "I tried to help the best I could."

Eric Wanchisen, 45, said the crash occurred in front of the residence of an emergency room doctor who was home.

"What's the odds she was home? She had them all assessed before the ambulance came," Wanchisen said.

Multiple neighbors credited her with saving the life of a baby who was in a stroller that was hit.

Wanchisen said all the people in the neighborhood have complained about speeding on the road for years.

"This is worse than I ever could have pictured," Wanchisen said.
