After 20 years, AIM instant messenger to shut down this winter

Just as we reluctantly bid farewell to MSN messenger this time four years ago, the time has come to say goodbye to AIM.With technology advancing quickly and new communication mechanisms seamlessly blending into our everyday lives, old-school "instant messaging" is no longer a hot ticket. AIM announced their decision to shut down through their twitter handle on Friday. December 15 of this year will be the messaging platform’s final day. Michael Albers, Vice President of Communications Product at Oath said: "AIM tapped into new digital technologies and ignited a cultural shift, but the way in which we communicate with each other has profoundly changed." Various AIM users shared their feelings in response to the news.
