Haarvard professor fantasizes about how Crooked Hillary could still be president
[NEWSWEEK] Sure, it's been more than 340 days since Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
beat Perennial Presidential Campaigner Hillary Crooked Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away...
, but there's still one very narrow, highly unlikely and entirely unprecedented way that Clinton could become president.
Sure she could.
And it has some Democratic die-hards dreaming again.
... while they're not busy Resisting™.
Harvard University professor
Naturally.
Lawrence Lessig offered a Clinton path to the presidency on Medium, putting forward a series of "if/then" scenarios that lead to House Speaker Paul Ryan
...Speaker of the House, U.S. Representative for Wisconsin's 1st congressional district, serving since 1999. He is a member of the Republican Party. He proposed an alternative to President Obama's 2011 budget and made himself the target of both Democrat and Republican verbal pies...
handing the White House keys to Clinton.
The longer a chain of if/then scenarios, the less likely a particular result will occur.
Here's how constitutional law expert Lessig lays it out:
  • If number 1: If Trump is definitively found to have colluded directly with Russia, he would be forced to resign or be impeached.
What he's looking at here is a series of if then/multiple else if thens/else.
if Trump is definitively found to have colluded.(Don't bet on it)
and if he's forced to resign
            or impeached
                and convicted

else if Trump is merely suspected of colluding (Most likely. They can keep "discovering" new evidence) Nothing happens
        else nothing happens
  • If number 2: If Trump is removed, Vice President Mike Pence would become president.
  • True statement.
  • If number 3: If Pence becomes president, he should resign too, given that he benefited from the same help from Mother Russia.
  • There's been no accusation that he's been involved. He has no moral obligation to do so except in the fantasies of Dems.
  • If number 4: If Pence resigns before appointing a vice president, Ryan would become president.
  • First there's the unlikelihood of him resigning. If that did eventually come about, he'd most likely appoint a VP.
  • If number 5: If Ryan becomes president, he should do the right thing and choose Clinton for vice president. Then he should resign.
  • Power's not something that people give up lightly, especially if they're not obligated to do so. By this stage we've gone through a series of unlikely steps, with hands getting cleaner and cleaner, until we arrive at the point of a politician "doing the right thing" and then resigning so a woman of the other party who's regarded by his party (and by independents) as a serial liar and, given her behavior since the election, mentally unstable can take over without having to win an election..
"The answer seems unavoidable: He should nominate the person defeated by the treason of his own party, and then step aside and let her become the president," Lessig writes.
Perhaps the answer's unavoidable to fantasists. If I was a gambling guy, I'd say there were a lot more chances against it than in favor.
"Without doubt, if Ryan did the right thing, that would be the most extraordinary event in the history of America since the Confederate Army fired on Fort Sumter. But unlike that, this event would build the union, not divide it."
Nope. It would give the party of the Confederacy its way.
Lessig, who briefly ran for the Democratic nomination in 2015, adds that Clinton would then appoint Ryan to be veep out of political goodwill.
And he would coincidentally retire as a "dead broke" very rich man, rich beyond his widest dreams, to die soon after of "natural causes."
Americans can only assume that while busy being a president who can read policy documents longer than one page, she'd stop her endless press tour and figure out how to keep the nation from getting nuked.
She can burn the midnight oil instead of reading executive summaries of things she won't be able to recall. Meanwhile, the people who elected Trump will be Resisting™.
