Two German men sentenced for joining Islamist terrorists in Somalia and Syria
[DW] German courts have sentenced numerous German nationals for joining foreign Islamist Lions of Islam in recent years. Abshir A. and Ozkan C. have been found guilty of joining Somalia's al-Shabaab and Syria's Junud al-Sham.A court in the German city of Frankfurt on Friday separately found two German nationals guilty of joining foreign Islamist bad boy groups. The court sentenced the first, Abshir A., to two years and ten months in prison for joining al-Shabaab ...  Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...in Somalia, an Islamist terrorist group linked to al-Qaeda. It sentenced the second, Ozkan C., to two years and eight months for being a member of Junud al-Sham in Syria, a Sunni bad boy group. The Hessian radical A., who was born in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, but grew up in the German state of Hesse, fought along al-Shabaab Lions of Islam between early 2012 and early 2014. The 29-year-old completed four months of combat training upon arrival before being transferred to an al-Shabaab base, but was forced to stop fighting due to an unidentified physical affliction. A. denied ever fighting with the bad boy group. German police incarcerated I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece! While in Syria, he taught Arabic to other German-speaking al-Sham fighters and was given weapons training. Junud al-Sham had been fighting in Syria's deadly civil war before many of its members left to join the terrorist organization "Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allaharound with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not reallyMoslems.... C. returned to Germany in late 2013, where he promoted radical Islamist organizations before police arrested him in 2016.
