Sportswear abayas become a market favorite in Saudi Arabia
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Women's sportswear abayas began to make a statement in women's clothing shops, particularly in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, merchants said, Saudi daily Ajel reported.

Demand on the new designs is expected to rise with the approaching date of allowing the families to enter the stadiums which is expected to start immediately in the New Year.

Pictures of the designs of the sportswear abayas of certain teams such as al Etihad, al Hilal, al Ahli and al Nasr showed the difference in the colors that represent each team.

The prices of the abayas ranged between $66 and $106, depending on the quality of the cloth used, with the expectation that prices will decline in the future with increasing quantities offered.

The former head of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Makkah, Sheikh Ahmed bin Qassim al-Ghamdi found it completely acceptable for women to enter football stadiums with colorful abayas stressing that, "there is nothing wrong with that."

Commenting on how some shop owners started importing colorful abayas for women who are fans of football teams in accordance with the implementation of the decision to allow the families to enter the stadiums, Sheikh al-Ghamdi told Agel "we encourage women to enter the stadiums wearing the color of their favorites team," adding that "it is permissible by the Charia." .

He stated that: "Abayas are like the Jilbab and doesn’t have a specific color." He continued saying that: "Religion does not order women to wear a specific color, so it is not acceptable to force people to do something that Allah hasn’t ordered."

Sheikh al-Ghamdi explained that "the aim is to cover up women in Jilbab, whether it is the color of the team they encourage or any color they choose."
