Syrian government accepts terms for a ceasefire in the East Ghouta
[ALMASDARNEWS] The UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said he was informed that Russia and the Syrian government had agreed to a ceasefire in Syria’s Eastern Ghouta.

He was speaking to journalists ahead of the latest round of Syrian peace talks in Geneva on Tuesday.

"We are, and were, very concerned about it," he said.

"Now we need to see whether it is a safe place, but it is not coincidental that is has actually been proposed and agreed upon just the day of the beginning of this session," he added.

The talks, which are mediated by the UN, began in confusion earlier in the morning.

Negotiations were due to start on November 28, but Bashar-al-Assad’s government only confirmed their participation the day before. Representatives of the Syrian government are now expected to arrive on Wednesday.
