UN envoy to monitor resolution on Syria, Lebanon
The UN envoy for the Middle East peace process, Terje Roed-Larsen, will take on an additional task of monitoring the implementation of a resolution that calls on Syria to withdraw its forces from Lebanon, a spokesman said yesterday. Roed-Larsen was appointed a United Nations undersecretary-general by Secretary-General Kofi Annan to monitor the implementation of Resolution 1559 adopted by the United Nations Security Council in October to demand the Syrian withdrawal, said Fred Eckhard. Roed-Larsen will begin his work on January 3.Â
