after arriving at Hurghada airport from Germany in December 2015.

He was referred to a military trial for a number of charges including spreading false news and joining a banned group, in reference to the Moslem Brüderbund.
A dreadful charge, of course, but it seems a tad unlikely given his interst in Ansar Bayt al Maqdis/ISIS in the Sinai.
This is a first degree military court ruling that can be appealed within 60 days of its ratification.
...and possibly five years from now the final ruling after the final appeal will be handed down, Mr. Alexandrani having languished in orison the entire time.
The Times of Israel adds:
Alexandrani had been in pretrial detention for two and a half years since his arrest in the Red Sea resort of Hurghada after he returned from a work trip in Berlin.

group, Alexandrani had been to Germany to deliver lectures on the political situation in Egypt, his wife Khadija Gaafar had said at the time.

Alexandrani was also known for his anti-regime writings and for criticising the military’s role in politics, and was a contributor to publications including the French online magazine Orient XXI, which confirmed his sentencing on Twitter.

Co-defendant Walid Mohareb was also sentenced to 10 years in prison in the same trial, which included 18 others who were being tried in absentia, Abdel Aal said.
