Lo-Carb Diet Craze Over: I Call Hijinks
...A study by NPD Group, an independent marketing information company, found that the percentage of American adults on any low-carb diet in 2004 peaked at 9.1 percent in February and dropped to 4.9 percent by early November. Further, it said only one of four people surveyed was significantly cutting carbs and "virtually none" were reducing carbs as much as the diets recommended. I think that the Marketing industry has been told to end the lo-carb diet craze by the hi-carb manufacturers of breads, junk food, beer, etc. I noticed that a health food chain had stripped all the lo-carb from their shelves, even though it was still selling well, and four other food chains I called on the same day said they were doing the same. None had noticed any reduction in sales, but all advised me that "the lo-carb diet craze is over."
