The Ministry of Defense in a statement said the prisoners were rescued during an operation conducted late on Monday night in the vicinity of Musa Qala district.

The statement further added that a number of security personnel and doctors were among those released.

According to MoD, at least four army soldiers, fifteen police soldiers, and two doctors and several civilians were rescued during the operation.

The anti-government armed Lion of Islam groups including Talibs have not commented regarding the report so far.

This is not the first time the Afghan forces conducting special operations against the hideouts of the Talibs which are used as prison cells.

At least seven civilians were rescued during a similar operation conducted in the vicinity of Charchino district of Uruzgan province nearly ten days ago.
