Terrified tourists are forced to evacuate themselves from sweltering, broke down Paris Metro trains and walk along dark tracks after being trapped underground for more than two hours
[MAIL] Young children were among thousands of terrified tourists and commuters who evacuated themselves from sweltering Paris Metro trains after a power cut left them trapped underground for hours.
A technical problem paralysed the network for hours, forcing the evacuation of hundreds of people through dark tunnels in stifling heat.
The breakdown began shortly after 8pm local time on Tuesday when a train on Line 1, which serves the Louvre, the Champs Elysees and other tourist landmarks in the French capital, suddenly halted between stops in the popular Marais district.
Network operator RATP was unable to determine the cause of the incident, forcing the shutdown of the entire line.
