[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] One Iranian demonstrator was killed in the Karaj protests on Friday night, while authorities imposed a curfew in some cities in anticipation of renewed protests on Sunday evening.

the Fars agency ‐ allied to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards ‐ said the demonstrator was shot by unknown assailants.

The agency also reported that during the protests, which it described as riots, 20 people were tossed in the slammer

. It was noted that it was women who led demonstrations and launched anti-regime slogans.

The cities of Karaj and Ashtard in Alborz province have witnessed major demonstrations in recent days.

"During this period, we tried to attend rallies and listen to people, but we saw that these demands were not only economic, but turned into protests against the regime," Khairallah Terkhani, head of the political and security department in Alborz province, said.

As the new round of protests escalated, authorities announced on Saturday that they would impose a curfew on roads leading to the Gohrer Dasht district in Karaj and into the neighborhood after 18:00.
