In a statement on Thursday, Abdul-Sattar al-Bayraqdar, a spokesperson of the High Judicial Council, said "Karkh Criminal Court reviewed cases of suspects who were convicted for joining Islamic State. They were sentenced to death over carrying out terrorist operations." The convicts, according to the statement, "took part in fighting against security and military troops in Nineveh and Anbar.
