Sweida Reconquered: Syrian Army scores major advance in southern Syria, kills 15 turbans
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) had another productive day in the southern region of Syria this week, as their troops liberated a great deal of territory from the so-called Islamic State...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Led by their 1st, 3rd, and 10th divisions, the Syrian Arab Army began the day by storming the northeastern and western axes of the strategic al-Safa region in the eastern countryside of the Sweida Governorate. According to a military source in Sweida city, the Syrian Arab Army liberated several points between the western and northeastern axes of al-Safa region, resulting in the government troops meeting up with one another in this mountainous area. The source added that the Syrian Arab Army advanced a little over 1.5 kilometers through the al-Safa region, leaving less than 20 percent of the mountain still under the Islamic State’s control. ISIS reportedly suffered more casualties during this assault, including heavy losses to their military equipment. The Syrian Arab Army is now attempting to persuade the remaining Islamic State forces of Evil to surrender their positions before they launch another big assault to capture the al-Safa region. With virtually nowhere to retreat and very little provisions, the Islamic State is likely to surrender their remaining positions in the coming days. According to a military source in Sweida city, the Syrian Arab Army’s assault would prove successful, as their troops managed to liberate the strategic water dam in the Hawi Awad area. This is an important advance for the Syrian Arab Army because it ultimately cuts off the Islamic State’s last water source inside the vast Syrian Desert.
