Kabul: dozens of Hazeri casualties in double mosque kaboom, Haqqani gang busted

Dozens dead or wounded in twin explosions in Kabul

[KhaamaPress] At least thirty twenty people were killed and nearly seventy others sustained injuries in twin explosions in Kabul city earlier this evening.

Security sources confirm the first blast took place inside a sports complex in the 6th police district of the city in Qala-e-Nazir area in west of Kabul.

The sources further added that the second blast took place among the reporters in the same area.

The Ministry of Public Health confirmed that the dead bodies of at least 20 people along with at least 70 wounded people were shifted to the hospitals.

The security officials have not confirmed the type of the explosions and the exact casualties toll but preliminary reports indicate the first blast has taken place due to a suicide attack.

No individual or group including Taliban and ISIS loyalists has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
Tolo News adds:
The Kabul police chief's spokesman told TOLOnews that a second explosion targeted first responders at the scene of Wednesday night's bombing in the city.

Officials confirmed the first explosion, just after 6pm, was a suicide bombing and the second, about an hour later, had been a car bomb.

Sources said that the second bombing targeted police and civilians, including journalists, who had gathered outside the Moalem wrestling club in Qala-e-Nazer in PD6, which had been targeted about an hour earlier by a suicide bomber.
Al Ahram points out:
A suicide attack at a wrestling club in a Shia neighborhood of the Afghan capital Kabul and a second explosion apparently targeting emergency services and journalists killed at least 20 people and wounded 70 on Wednesday, officials said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack in Dasht-e-Barchi, home to many members of the mainly Shia Muslim Hazara ethnic minority which has been targeted in the past by Sunni militants of Islamic State group.

The Hazaras are a Persian-speaking minority that has long faced discrimination and which has borne the brunt of attacks claimed by Islamic State group in Kabul.
