Ford's Lawyers Attempt To Set The Terms, Conditions & Date Of Her Testimony
[The Hill] - The woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault says she's willing to testify next week under certain conditions that have yet to be negotiated.
The lawyer for Christine Blasey Ford told the Senate Judiciary Committee in an email that Ford would be prepared to testify next week if senators offer "terms that are fair and which ensure her safety," The New York Times reported on Thursday.
CNN's Manu Raju shared a copy of the email from Ford's lawyers on Twitter.
Ford's lawyers in recent days have urged the FBI to open an investigation into Ford's sexual assault claim before she sits for a public hearing.
One of Ford's lawyers, Debra Katz, in the email said it "is not possible" for Ford to testify publicly on Monday, as the committee scheduled.
"The Committee’s insistence that it occur then is arbitrary in any event," she wrote, according to the Times.
Katz wrote that she will set up a call with senators on the committee "later on Thursday" to further discuss the proposal.
Ford is accusing Kavanaugh of holding her down and attempting to take off her clothing during a high school party in the 1980s.
To summarize - they want unspecified terms, an assurance of Ford's safety (I'm not buying the claim that she was driven out of her house - Democrats pull that shit on conservatives) and in any event, it's not going to happen on Monday. I hope we don't fold on this one.
