Seven Philippine soldiers injured by NPA bomb
[Manila Standard] New People’s Army militants set off a roadside bomb at a military convoy Tuesday, injuring seven army soldiers shortly after an clash in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte.

Military spokesman Ronald Villanueva said the New People's Army violated the provision of the IHL relating to the use of anti-personnel mines during hostilities. He said, "NPA terrorists have again violated International Humanitarian Law by using landmines that cause severe damage to a person and may decapitate his body.”

Troops were heading back to their barracks before a clash with NPA rebels in Buenavista town when the militants detonated a landmine on their path. Reports said the landmine exploded few minutes after troops and the NPAs from Alias Yolly from Guerrillas Front Committee 4A of Northern Central Mindanao Regional Command exchanged fire, injuring seven soldiers.

Villanueva said the encounter occurred after a tip-off from locals regarding the presence of NPAs in their area. The clash lasted for 30 minutes with around 15 rebels. After the encounter, troops found an NPA militant dead with his M4 rifle.
