ISIS refuses to surrender volcanic region as Syrian troops attempt to advance
[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) resumed their field operations in the al-Safa volcanic region of al-Sweida this week after repelling two Islamic State...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allaharound with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not reallyMoslems.... (ISIS) attempts to breakout of the area. Led by the 3rd Corps and 10th Division, the Syrian Arab Army attempted to advance at the southwestern and northeastern axes of the al-Safa region, while facing heavy resistance from the Islamic State terrorists. According to a military source in Sweida city, the Syrian Arab Army was able to make some progress near the Qasr Sheikh Hussein area; however, the Islamic State launched a swift counter-assault to reclaim the territories they lost. The Islamic State is now working to retake the water source they lost to the Syrian Arab Army last week. This could be the Islamic State’s last major assault, as the absence of a water supply is likely bearing down on their fighters in this vast volcanic region in Syria’s southern countryside.
