 stated on Thursday that his military will not leave Syria until new elections are held.

"Whenever the Syrian people hold an election, we will leave Syria to its owners after they hold their elections," Erdogan said at a forum in Istanbul, as quoted by Rooters News Agency.

Erdogan’s comments come just a week after he said he will not have any diplomatic relations with Damascus until Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

The Ottoman Turkish President has been a key ally to the Syrian opposition forces in northern Syria over the years, despite disagreements with their Russian and Iranian allies over the leadership of the country.

With a new demilitarized zone in the Idlib province, Erdogan’s forces have managed to solidify their presence in Syria.
