Armed group attempts to enter Iran from Iraq
[ALMASDARNEWS] An Iranian soldier was killed in an overnight attack by an gang near the Iraqi border, state-owned Islamic Theocratic RepublicNews Agency (IRNA) reported this morning. According to IRNA, the Iranian soldier was killed when an gang attempted to infiltrate into the border-city of Marivan in the Kurdistan Province; they tried to enter from Iraq’s Suleimaniyah Governorate. Marivan is 125 km to the west of the historic provincial capital, Sanandaj, bordering Iraqi Kurdistan. The city shares a 100-km border with Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah. Citing the Deputy Commander of the Iranian Border Guards, IRNA said the military seized a large quantity of weapons and ammunition from the gang that was attempting to enter the country.
