Hama-Idlib axis: Syrian Army’s 5th Legion approaches, foreign turban emir confirmed killed,skirmishes in northern Hama


Massive convoy of Syrian Army 5th Legion troops head to Idlib (video)

[AlMasdar] (7:15 P.M.) – A large convoy of 5th Legion troops were filmed heading towards the Idlib province after serving several weeks in southern Syria.

According to military reports, the Syrian Arab Army’s entire 5th Legion has received orders to redeploy from the southern provinces of Al-Sweida and Dara’a to the Hama-Idlib axis in the northwestern region of the country.

The massive 5th Legion convoy consisted of a large number of soldiers, armored vehicles, and their heavy weaponry that was previously used against the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) and jihadist rebels.

While their missions remains unclear, they are most likely being sent to this front to aid in the upcoming Tiger Forces offensive that is set to take place in the southeastern countryside of Idlib.

Foreign jihadist commander assassinated in southern Idlib

[AlMasdar] (8:30 P.M.) – A high ranking jihadist commander was assassinated this week after unknown assailants opened fired on his home in southern Idlib.

According to opposition activists via social media, the Tunisian jihadist commander, “Abu ‘Umar Al-Tunisi”, was leaving his villa in the southern Idlib town of Al-Taman’ah on Saturday, when unknown assailants opened fired and killed him.

No group has claimed responsibility for this latest assassination.

Some opposition activists have accused Syrian Arab Army (SAA) spies of carrying out this assassination; however, the government has not made any claims regarding this incident.

Heavy clashes breakout in northern Hama after Syrian Army, rebels trade attacks

[AlMasdar] (9:00 P.M.) – A series of intense clashes broke out in northern Hama on Saturday evening after the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) opened fire on the jihadist rebels inside the demilitarized zone.

According to a military source in nearby Mhardeh, the Syrian Arab Army began their assault after they observed jihadist fighters moving through the demilitarized zone.

The Syrian Army fired several artillery shells and missiles towards the jihadist rebels, prompting the latter to respond with their own barrage of projectiles in northern Hama.

The clashes would then spread to the southern countryside of the Idlib Governorate, when the jihadist rebels fired several rockets towards the Syrian Army defenses south of Khuwayn.

These clashes are still ongoing at this time, with both parties trading blows along the Idlib-Hama axis.

Syrian Army foils militant infiltration attempt in northern Hama

[AlMasdar] (10:40 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) foiled yet another attempt by the militant forces to infiltrate their positions in northern Hama.

According to a field report, the Free Syrian Army’s (FSA) Jaysh Al-Izza faction attempted to sneak past the Syrian Arab Army’s military post near the town of Al-Zalaqiyat on Saturday before they were spotted by local scouts.

The Syrian Arab Army then opened fire on the Islamist rebels after they were seen moving south from the Jaysh Al-Izza stronghold of Al-Latamnah.

With their positions exposed to the Syrian Arab Army’s machine gunners, the Islamist rebels were forced to retreat back to Al-Latamnah after they suffered a number of casualties.

Since the attack by Jaysh Al-Izza, the Syrian Arab Army has unleashed a flurry of surface-to-surface missiles on their positions in the towns of Zakat and Al-Latamnah.
