Southern Africa: SADC Urges All-inclusive Government in DRC
[All Africa] His Excellency Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia says given the strong objections to the provisional results of the presidential election in the Democratic Republic of the Congo ...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material... (DRC), the Southern African Development Community (SADC) has called on all politicians to consider a negotiated political settlement for an all-inclusive government. And SADC encourages all stakeholders in the DRC elections to pursue a negotiated political settlement for a government of national unity. In his capacity as chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security, President Lungu says he has spoken to leaders of SADC and the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR).
