Roche's jail sentence upheld
 Convicted terrorist Jack Roche has had his nine-year jail sentence for plotting with al-Qaeda to blow the Israeli embassy in Canberra upheld by Western Australia's Court of Criminal Appeal. In a two to one decision, Roche's appeal against the length of his sentence - which he said did not take into account his extensive co-operation with Australian authorities - was dismissed. Justices Michael Murray, John McKechnie and Anthony Templeman also dismissed a Crown appeal to have the sentence increased. Prosecutors had said the sentence should be doubled because it failed to deter would-be bombers from plotting attacks on Australia.Posted by: God Save The World 2005-01-14 |
